I have been taking walks with God in the morning. As a recommendation from my pastor, I realized I love drinking coffee and the only few minutes I have each morning are when Tonya is getting ready for work. So now I walk my neighborhood in prayer each morning with a cup of coffee in hand.
Today as I walked and prayed, I kept asking that God would be close. I needed a sense of His nearness and connection. I had the lyrics of an old Switchfoot song in my mind and I prayed:
Let me know that You hear me
Let me know Your touch
Let me know that You love me
And let that be enough
Today I had nothing else on my heart or mind but a desire for God's closeness and a connection with His heart. I had no requests or petitions. I had no intercession. Today I needed to KNOW he heard me. I needed to know He loved me and I needed to know His closeness.
Then I realized each day I walk our neighborhood sidewalks, and I always walk down the middle. If I walk WITH someone, I would not walk down the middle. I would make room to walk with and beside that person.
My heart was being invited...
I moved to the side of the sidewalk so that my physical movement instructed my heart's reality. God made clear these words:
"PC, make room for me."
This was more than a physical time and space I was to make room for; I have been doing that every morning on my walks. This was room to be made in my heart, mind, and spirit. I am to make room where I have been too full. My heart, spirit, and mind have been too full. I want to be near God and have a sense of His love, a sense of His touch, a sense of Him hearing me, and I wanted that to be enough today. Jesus spoke to my heart the same He said to Martha in Luke 10:
"PC, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good. Mary has made room for me to be with her. PC, make room for me."
